On Writing My First Book – Update Number One

I always talked about being an Author but that was wishful thinking a few years ago. However, in the last few months, I became serious about writing my first book and having it published. However, it is really not as easy as I thought it would be.

writing my first book

I really thought this through for the last few weeks and I have decided that its best I don’t go through the traditional publishing world and instead create an eBook that can be freely downloaded and shared using the self-publishing method. I do plan on creating a [NY Times best selling] book in the future but for now, I want to show the world what I am capable of so that I can attract an audience with a free eBook.

However, free does not equal invaluable – in fact, in future updates, I will add a screen shot of my book outline, right down to the word count, number of chapters, topics and pages.

My goal is to create an eBook with my “best content”. However, since this is my first book, this project is a bit challenging because in order for me to start writing, I need to figure out all of the items below and have it all researched and written down on paper.

  • Outline (second most important)
  • Working title, working sub-title
  • Start date & anticipated end date.
  • Word count, chapters, and number of pages.
  • Book synopsis
  • Target audience (most important)
  • Take away, purpose
  • Comparable books in my field.

I hope that by tomorrow, I can finish the outline and figure out my target audience so that I can work on the other items which won’t be much of a challenge once I get through with the most important stuff first.

This is a very exciting time for me. Please comment below and let me know if you have any comments or suggestions. Thanks for all of your support guys & girls!
